Silent Sitting
The Art of Tuning
Silent sitting is a relaxation exercise that slows down outer activity and directs our attention within. It connects us to an inner space of quietude and harmony, which fosters concentration and calms emotions. It reduces physical restlessness, anxiety and stress and promotes clear thinking, and decision making. It sharpens the intellect and develops intuition. When practiced at school silent sitting reduces distractions and the level of noise in the classroom.

Silent sitting puts us in touch with our deeper feelings.
We learn more about ourselves and our True Nature.
The Breathing Stick
Here is a tool to help small children practice conscious breathing. It is called "The breathing stick" and can be easily made, also with the help of the children themselves. All you need is a pipe cleaner for each breathing stick, and nine wooden beads. A teacher from Spain, who is using this tool to foster quiet time in her students, shared it with us. With gratitude and appreciation we share it with you!
Silent Sitting - A Resource Manual
“These days teaching is becoming increasingly difficult due to problems with discipline, lack of concentration by pupils, and lack of pupil motivation. Just as life is becoming more difficult and complicated for teachers, it is also becoming more difficult and complicated for pupils. Therefore, for the sake of both their own well-being and that of their pupils, teachers are constantly searching for ways to address these problems.”
Dr. Margaret Taplin

The book "Silent Sitting - A Resource Manual" has been graciously shared with www.martyswatch.com, directly by its author, Dr. Margaret Taplin, to make it available to others. The book suggests some ways in which the techniques of “silent sitting” and “creative visualization" can be utilized in the classroom to help address the above mentioned issues. Just a few minutes of time once or twice a day is enough! It would even be better to find ways to build bridges with parents (and thus consistency for children), by encouraging them to set aside time for quiet games and activities, and for silent sitting at home, too
